ARTs-18 (2017/18 Season)

Along with the first year, it was probably the most important season in ARUS' history, since the decision of designing and manufacturing two cars forced the team to duplicate the amount of members, work to be done, and situations to be solved during the year. Also, the advanced technology involved in the electric vehicle added much more difficulties to a project which would made ARUS the only Spanish team competing simultaneously in both classes.

Another of the firsts of this 2018 season was competing at The Cathedral of motorcycling, Assen Circuit, home of Formula Student Netherlands. Everything was going better than anyone could have hoped, but some parts wearing out during the Endurance made the ART-18C had to retire from the event, finishing the competition in a 6th place overall which would have been a podium without that misfortune.

However, despite that disappointment, FSN 2018 will be always remembered as the competition where ARUS received its first trophies: not one, nor two, but three. Having two cars also implied developing two Business Plans, and both of them (Pricesarus & ART Go) placed 1st and 3rd respectively in their classes. The third one came from a 2nd place in Cost & Manufacturing event.

Back in Spain, the issues from Assen were solved and the ART-18C was able to compete in the dynamic events, finishing the Endurance this time. Another podium result is achieved in FSS, with a 3rd place in the Business Plan Presentation event.

There was massive progress on the ART-18E throughout the season, receiving mechanical inspection approval in Formula Student Spain, but unable to pass electrical scrutineering, something extremely hard for this type of cars. But as it had happened four years before with the combustion car, the foundations of the electric vehicle had been laid.

Improvements were made to the ART-18C, once reliability was considered satisfactory. Optimisation on the camshaft and crankshaft helped the Engine & Powertrain system, while Electronics was also benefited from higher-quality boards. Also, the car's weight decreased by 12 kg.
